Traffic Wardens

THE MUNICIPALITY / Departments / Traffic Wardens
The Traffic Wardens service was established with the aim of keeping in check illegal parking within the Nicosia municipal boundaries, in a bid to improve road safety. The service operates under the powers vested in local administration authorities and pursuant to the Extrajudicial Regulation Offences Law Number 47(I) of 1997.

Traffic wardens are municipality employees appointed by the city council. Their duties are designated by the city council, with the consent of the Chief of Police, they are relatively limited, and for the most part relate to policing parking and citing people who park illegally within the municipal boundaries.

Citations and on-the-spot fines

Citations to persons for offences falling under the purview of local administration authorities - such as Nuisance and Parking - are issued pursuant to the Extrajudicial Regulation Offences Law Number 47(I) of 1997.

Upon issuance of a citation, no court proceedings are taken for thirty (30) days after the date of the citation.

If a fine is not paid within fifteen (15) days of the date of citation, the fine is increased by one-half of its original amount. Fines are paid at the municipal register and online on the municipality’s webpage.

Remarks, suggestions or comments relating to the competencies of the Traffic Wardens service, or comments and objections relating to fines, should be submitted in writing and addressed to the Municipal Secretary.
