ICFFCY, BirdLife Cyprus and the Australian High Commission Nicosia present a special family film screening event of the Australian film "Storm Boy" (2018) ; an emotional story touching on themes of friendship, family, loss, love and environmental sustainability. The screening, followed by short presentations will be held at 3.00pm Saturday, 23rd November at the Home for Cooperation, Markou Drakou Street, Ledra Palace Buffer zone area, Nicosia.
A beautiful and contemporary retelling of Colin Thiele's classic Australian tale. 'Storm Boy' has grown up to be Michael Kingley, a successful retired businessman and grandfather. When Kingley starts to see images from his past that he can't explain, he is forced to remember his long-forgotten childhood, growing up on an isolated coastline with his father. He recounts to his grand-daughter the story of how, as a boy, he rescued and raised an extraordinary orphaned pelican, Mr Percival. Their remarkable adventures and very special bond has a profound effect on all their lives. Based on the beloved book, Storm Boy is a timeless story of an unusual and unconditional friendship.
The film stars Geoffrey Rush, Jai Courtney, Trevor Jamieson and introducing Finn Little. The family event is aimed at cultural exchange and understanding, showcasing a part of Australian culture as well as the importance of common matters regarding environmental rights, especially bird sanctuaries and protection. Following the screening, Birdlife Cyprus a short presentation about the birds in Cyprus and how we can protect them, while ICFFCY will lead a short activity regarding the film.
The event is organised by ICFFCY: International Children’s Film Festival of Cyprus in collaboration with BirdLife Cyprus and Sponsored by the Australian High Commission Nicosia
The event will be held in English and is rated PG. Ideal for children 7+ as well as adults and grandparents, the film is 98min + 20-30min post event. A donation of €3 is asked to help contribute to the event.
