Famagusta Gate is the largest and most imposing of the three gates of the Venetian walls surrounding the old city of Nicosia . The city walls were designed by famous engineer Giulio Savorgano, whostarted its construction in 1567. After its restoration in 1981 Famagusta Gate with two large halls anda passage , become the cultural center of Nicosia. Since then it became the core of the cultural life of the capital and Cyprus. The place is used for lectures, conferences , screenings, exhibitions, concerts, theatrical plays and Folk Art exhibitions.
