Nicosia 2030 candidate city for the European Capital of Culture embraces tradition, myths and fairy tales, not only of Cyprus but of all countries. Endorsing the saying of Michalis Pasiardis "But these are the myths that we have been given, the tales and legends", it gives a platform to the transmission of our tradition to the younger generations. In collaboration with the Press and Information Office, presents, in the Nicosia International Festival 2024, the first public screening of the first six episodes of his new film series "Myths of Cyprus", a production that brings to life the legends and traditions of our island. The screening will take place on Sunday 13 October 2024 (17:00), at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre.
The myths of Cyprus are everywhere. They move among us. So much so that if you manage to isolate yourself from the noise of everyday life and pay attention, you will realize that behind a closed door, in the shade of a rock, in the foliage of a century-old tree or in a glass of sweet-sweet wine something is following you... Something terrible, but reassuring. Something all your own.
The series aims to highlight the rich traditions of Cyprus to both locals and visitors alike. With a modern approach and impressive visual aesthetics, it aspires to win over younger audiences, attracting those who love the tradition and mythology of Cyprus.
The series "Myths of Cyprus", directed by Mark Kassinos and hosted by Dr. Joseph Hadjikyriakos, invites us on a 14-episode journey that will reveal known and unknown stories of the island.
The filming took place in locations all over the free Cyprus, offering authentic images that enhance the sense of connection with the place and its history, while the selection of the myths was made after bibliographical research by Dr. Joseph Hadjikyriakos and Mrs. Ioanna Panteli.
Through the episodes of the series, audiences will have the opportunity to experience myths about legendary heroes such as Digenis, Regina and Aphrodite, while enjoying stories of goblins, iron pigs and other mythical creatures that lurk in the depths of our tradition.
Admission to the event is free to the public. Reservations through SoldOut Tickets are required.
Event duration: 70-80 minutes
The episodes of the series will be screened in Greek with English subtitles.
