Nicosia Municipal Garden
Nicosia 2030 and the Nicosia International Festival 2024 are strongly involved in the bid for the European Capital of Culture 2030, with tradition, traditional music and dance as an important pillar. In this context, they embrace the 1st Antama Festival, integrating its activities into the Parallel Programme of the Nicosia International Festival 2024.

On Saturday 28 September 2024, from 16:00 to 00:00, the 1st Antama Festival will bring traditional Cypriot island air to the Nicosia Municipal Garden.

Antama is a group of young people who seek dedicated to preserving Cyprus’s UNESCO cultural heritage. This festival seeks to revive the island’s rich traditions and reconnect locals with their roots. It promises a vibrant and immersive experience. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with Cyprus’s fading cultural crafts, traditions, and practices through interactive workshops and live demonstrations.

Cypriot youth music groups, KALESMA, MALY and NOMADES, will accompany the attendees in an island music and dance feast inspired by the traditions of Cyprus and the wider Mediterranean.

Key highlights of the event include:
• Traditional Dance Workshops - Learn and participate in time-honoured Cypriot dances.
• Pithkiavli Demonstrations - Witness the creation of the traditional Cypriot flute.
• The Craft of Caning - Explore the intricate art of caning, a long-standing Cypriot craft.
• Palouze-Making - Participate in a hands-on demonstration of how to make this beloved Cypriot delicacy.

Traditional delicacies, Cypriot food and drinks will be sold at the festival site.
