Ceramics, one of the earliest forms of human artistic expression, has played a central role in Cyprus’s rich cultural history. Cypriot pottery, known for its fusion of utility and aesthetic purpose, captures the essence of the island's heritage across centuries. Ceramic art first emerged during the Neolithic Age and evolved over time, reflecting the diverse cultural influences that have shaped the island. The abundance of high-quality clay in Cyprus fostered the development of ceramics as a significant artistic practice.

This exhibition invites contemporary ceramicists to respond to the diverse historical pieces in the CVAR collection—spanning Byzantine clay objects to colonial-era porcelain. Twelve Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot artists will present original works with their own language of expression, offering innovative interpretations of the medium and the art of ceramics.

The exhibition will feature a diverse group of Cypriot ceramicists, both established and emerging, to highlight the dynamic range of contemporary practices in Cyprus. Additionally, it will explore how ceramics are evolving in response to our times. By juxtaposing tradition with innovation, this exhibition will provide a comprehensive view of how Cypriot ceramics continue to evolve in the modern era.

This exhibition will not only showcase the artistic talent of contemporary ceramicists but will also serve as a cultural bridge, linking Cyprus's past with its present and fostering artistic dialogue between its communities.
