Με τη μουσική παράσταση αφιέρωμα στον Ιταλό συνθέτη Ennio Moricone από τον Κύπριο πιανίστα και συνθέτη Σταύρο Λάντσια και τη θεατρική παράσταση της ΕΘΑΛ «Περλιμπλίν και Μπελίσα» του Ισπανού ποιητή Φεντερίκο Γκαρθία Λόρκα, συνεχίζεται η 5^η εβδομάδα του Διεθνούς Φεστιβάλ Λευκωσίας.

Ο Κύπριος πιανίστας και συνθέτης, Σταύρος Λάντσιας, μετά τις συνεργασίες του με σημαντικούς Έλληνες καλλιτέχνες όπως οι Διονύσης Σαββόπουλος, Αλκίνοος Ιωαννίδης, Ελένη Καραΐνδρου και Νίκος Ξυδάκης, χαράζει το δικό του μονοπάτι στον χώρο της μουσικής και μάς συστήνει τον «δικό του» αγαπημένο Ιταλό συνθέτη. Παρέα με τρεις μουσικούς που έχουν γράψει τη δική τους ιστορία στη σύγχρονη ελληνική μουσική σκηνή, ο Σταύρος Λάντσιας μας παρουσιάζει τις μελωδίες του βραβευμένου, με δύο Όσκαρ, τρεις Χρυσές Σφαίρες, τέσσερα Βραβεία Grammy και έξι Βραβεία BAFTA, Ennio Morricone (1928-2020).

Επιλέγοντας από τις περισσότερες από 500 συνθέσεις του Morricone για τον κινηματογράφο και την τηλεόραση, ο Σταύρος Λάντσιας μας παρουσιάζει τη μουσική του Morricone για τη «Λολίτα», το «Σινεμά ο Παράδεισος», το «Κάποτε στη Δύση» και το «Ο καλός, ο κακός και ο άσχημος» μέσα από τη δική του προσωπική ματιά. Ο Λάντσιας, προσεγγίζει το έργο του συνθέτη στην ουσία του. Κατανοεί τις διαστάσεις του, μελετάει σε βάθος την κάθε σύνθεση του και μέσα από το δικό του δημιουργικό πρίσμα, «σκηνοθετεί» ένα φανταστικό φιλμ, στο οποίο η εικόνα απουσιάζει. Μια βραδιά αφιερωμένη όχι μόνο στον Ιταλό συνθέτη, αλλά και στο ίδιο το σινεμά, που προκαλεί ρίγη συγκίνησης στην φαντασία μας.

Η συναυλία «Ο δικός μου Ennio Morricone» έρχεται στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Λευκωσίας μετά τις επιτυχημένες συναυλίες στο Μέγαρο Μουσικής Αθηνών, στις Νύχτες Πρεμιέρας του 28^ου Διεθνούς Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου Αθηνών και στο Ίδρυμα Βασίλη & Ελίζας Γουλανδρή.

Βιογραφικό Σταύρου Λάντσια

Σπούδασε κλασικό πιάνο και θεωρία μουσικής στο Ελληνικό Ωδείο Λευκωσίας. Κατέχει Bachelor of Music Degree in Commercial Arranging από το Berklee College of Music της Βοστώνης, ενώ παρακολούθησε μαθήματα σύνθεσης μουσικής για κινηματογράφο. Μετά το Berklee συνέχισε σπουδές πιάνου με τον διεθνούς φήμης καθηγητή και «guru» της jazz, Charlie Banakos. Διακρίθηκε με τα βραβεία Count Basie Jazz Masters award for pianists 1989 και Quincy Jones Jazz Masters award for arrangers 1990. Συνθέσεις του παρουσιάζει με το συγκρότημα “Human Touch”, πού έχει δημιουργήσει παρέα με τους διακεκριμένους μουσικούς Γιώτη Kιουρτσόγλου καί David Lynch. Το 1998 κυκλοφόρησε το ομώνυμο άλμπουμ “Human Touch” και το 2005 το “Movin”. Η πρώτη του προσωπική δισκογραφική δουλειά με τον τίτλο «Επιστροφή» κυκλοφόρησε το 1999. Ακολούθησαν και άλλες δισκογραφικές δουλειές με τελευταία την πιο πρόσφατη ηχογράφηση συνθέσεών του, με τη συμμετοχή των Peter Erskine στα τύμπανα και Lars Danielsson στο κοντραμπάσο.

«… ο Λόρκα, κατόρθωσε, επιστρατεύοντας αυτούσιο τον σκηνικό οπλισμό της παλαιάς φάρσας, να δώσει καινούργια ζωή σε ένα τετριμμένο θέμα και να δει πίσω από τον παραλογισμό των ανθρώπινων σχέσεων το συγκλονιστικό όραμα μιας αλήθειας που δεν είναι σε όλους προσιτή» (από το εισαγωγικό σημείωμα του Νίκου Γκάτσου στην ελληνική απόδοση του έργου).
Με αφορμή της ανάληψης της Προεδρίας του Ευρωπαϊκού Συμβουλίου της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης από την Ισπανία, η Εταιρεία Θεατρικής Ανάπτυξης Λεμεσού (ΕΘΑΛ) τιμά τον Ισπανό ποιητή Φεντερίκο Γκαρσία Λόρκα. Γραμμένο γύρω στο 1929, το έργο επανέρχεσαι στο κυπριακό θέατρο μετά από δύο και πέραν δεκαετίες, σε σκηνοθεσία του καλλιτεχνικού διευθυντή της ΕΘΑΛ Αχιλλέα Γραμματικόπουλου. Ο Λόρκα εμπνέεται από τον αδιέξοδο και ανεκπλήρωτο έρωτα. Η ιστορία του Περλιμπλίν και της Μπελίσας είναι τρυφερή και οδυνηρή συνάμα, είναι ένας ύμνος στον έρωτα που ισορροπεί ανάμεσα στο λυρικό και το γκροτέσκο.
Στο έργο, ο γερασμένος Δον Περλιμπλίν ζει απομονωμένος στο αρχοντικό του με μόνη συντροφιά τα βιβλία. Η γηραιά οικονόμος Μαρκόλφα που τον φροντίζει, τον προτρέπει να παντρευτεί μια γυναίκα, ανησυχώντας για το τι θα απογίνει μόνος του όταν η ίδια εγκαταλείψει τα εγκόσμια. Ο Περλιμπλίν αρνείται πεισματικά όταν, όμως, ακούει τη φωνή της Μπελίσας να τραγουδά την αγάπη, παραδίδεται άνευ όρων στη σαγήνη της και τη ζητά για γυναίκα του. Ήρθε λοιπόν, η στιγμή να ζήσει για πρώτη φορά τον απόλυτο έρωτα και για αυτό, να γευθεί το απρόβλεπτο και σπαρακτικά γρανιτένιο τίμημα του.

Στο πλαίσιο της 4^ης εβδομάδας του Φεστιβάλ παρουσιάστηκε η παράσταση σύγχρονου χορού «Never Twenty One» («Δεν θα γίνουν ποτέ 21») του Γαλλο-Μαλιανού Smail Kanouté, μια παράσταση χαστούκι στον ρατσισμό. Την παράσταση παρακολούθησε η πρέσβειρα της Γαλλίας Gabriel Ferran Carrion και ο βουλευτής Λευκωσίας Γιώργος Λουκαΐδης μαζί με πλήθος εφήβων μεταναστών από δομές της πολιτείας που φιλοξενούν αγόρια και κορίτσια που έφτασαν στην Κύπρο ασυνόδευτα.
Την ίδια ώρα, στο πλαίσιο του παράλληλου προγράμματος του Διεθνούς Φεστιβάλ Λευκωσίας εγκαινιάστηκε η εικαστική έκθεση από τον PASHIAS με τίτλο «Fresh Fish».

Italian and Spanish flavour in the 5th week of the Nicosia International Festival

The 5th week of the Nicosia International Festival continues with the musical performance dedicated to the Italian composer Ennio Moricone by the Cypriot pianist and composer Stavros Lancia and the theatrical performance of the National Theatre of Cyprus "Perliblin and Belisa" by the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca.

Τhe Cypriot pianist and composer Stavros Lantsias, having collaborated with notable Greek artists such as Dionysis Savvopoulos, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Eleni Karaindrou, and Nikos Xydakis, forges his own distinct path in the world of music and pays homage to his favorite Italian composer. Together with the Stavros Lantsias Quartet, Stavros Lantsias presents the melodies of Ennio Morricone (1928-2020), a winner of two Oscars, three Golden Globes, four Grammy Awards, and six BAFTA Awards.

Stavros Lantsias presents some of Morricone's most iconic compositions, including selections from a repertoire of over 500 musical masterpieces. The enchanting melodies of “Lolita”, “Cinema Paradiso”, “Once Upon a Time in the West”, and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” are brought to life by Lantsias together with three esteemed musicians who have made their own mark on the contemporary Greek music scene. Lantsias infuses his unique perspective into Morricone's timeless works and delves deeply into the essence of the composer's creations comprehending the rich spectrum of each composition. Through his own creative lens, he orchestrates a cinematic experience where visuals are transcended. The evening is not just a tribute to the Italian composer but also a celebration of the art of cinema itself, meant to evoke a profound sense of wonder and imagination.

The concert “My Own Ennio Morricone” is being presented at the Nicosia International Festival following its success at the Athens Megaron (Athens Concert Hall), the Premiere Nights of the Athens International Film Festival, and at the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation.

Biography of Stavros Lantsias

He studied classical piano and music theory at the Greek Conservatory of Nicosia. He holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Commercial Arranging from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and has taken courses in film music composition. After Berklee he continued his piano studies with the internationally renowned jazz professor and "guru" Charlie Banakos. He was awarded the Count Basie Jazz Masters award for pianists in 1989 and the Quincy Jones Jazz Masters award for arrangers in 1990. He performs his compositions with the band "Human Touch", which he has formed together with the distinguished musicians Giotis Kiourtsoglou and David Lynch. In 1998 he released the eponymous album "Human Touch" and in 2005 "Movin". His first personal recording entitled "Return" was released in 1999. Other recordings followed, with the latest being his most recent recording of his compositions, featuring Peter Erskine on drums and Lars Danielsson on double bass.

THE LOVE OF DON PERLIMPLÍN AND BELISA IN THE GARDEN by Federico García Lorca

"Federico García Lorca succeeded in breathing new life into a familiar theme by deploying the full arsenal of the traditional farce, revealing the absurdity of human relationships, and the staggering vision of a truth that is not readily accessible to all" (excerpt from the introductory note by Nikos Gatsos to the Greek adaptation of the play by himself).

In celebration of the Spanish Presidency of the European Council of the European Union, ETHAL pays tribute to the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. Written at 1929, the play’s revival after more than two decades, is directed ETHAL’s Artistic Director Achilleas Grammatikopoulos. Lorca’s inspiration is dead end love as well as unfulfilled love. The story of Perlimplín and Belisa is a tender, yet painful story; a homage to love which balances between lyricism and the grotesque.

In the play, Don Perlimplín, an elderly man, leads a secluded life in his mansion, where his only companions are his books. His devoted housekeeper, Marcolfa, who looks after him, becomes increasingly concerned about his well-being when she passes away. She encourages him to marry, hoping that a wife will bring him companionship and happiness, but Perlimplin adamantly refuses. However, when he hears Belisa singing, he surrenders unconditionally to her charm and asks her to be his wife. The time has come for him to experience the unpredictable nature of love and to pay its weighty price.

The 4th week of the Festival featured the contemporary dance performance "Never Twenty One" by the Franco-Malian Smail Kanouté, a slap in the face to racism. The performance was attended by French Ambassador Gabriel Ferran Carrion and Nicosia MP George Loukaides along with a number of teenage immigrants from the state's shelters that host boys and girls who arrived in Cyprus unaccompanied.
At the same time, as part of the parallel programme of the Nicosia International Festival, the art exhibition by PASHIAS entitled "Fresh Fish" was inaugurated.
