Το πρώτο τους άλμπουμ με τίτλο «Beginnings», παρουσιάζει το συγκρότημα «Island Seeds» στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Λευκωσίας 2023. Το συγκρότημα αποτελούμενο από επτά Ελληνοκύπριους και Τουρκοκύπριους νεαρούς μουσικούς θα βρεθεί στη σκηνή του Δημοτικού Θεάτρου Λευκωσίας, την Τετάρτη 29 Νοεμβρίου, στις 20:30.
 
Η μουσική αυτή κολεκτίβα γεννήθηκε την Άνοιξη του 2022 στη νεκρή ζώνη της Λευκωσίας. Σε συνεργασία με το «Σπίτι της Συνεργασίας» και τον καλλιτεχνικό διευθυντή του προγράμματος «United by Sound», Λευτέρη Μουμτζή, το γκρουπ ως μέσο μουσικής αυτο-ανακάλυψης και πειραματισμού, αντλεί από τη μουσική πορεία και καριέρα του κάθε μέλους.
 
Το πρώτο τους άλμπουμ «Beginnings», αποτελεί ένα μουσικό ταξίδι που ξεκίνησε με το πρώτο single τους «Stray Cat» (αδέσποτη γάτα). Οι στίχοι του τραγουδιού εξιστορούν με χιούμορ τις περιπέτειες μιας αδέσποτης γάτας στη νεκρή ζώνη της Λευκωσίας και περιλαμβάνει ονόματα, δρόμους και κτήρια από τον τόπο γέννησης του γκρουπ. Κατεξοχήν κυπριακό και συνάμα αβίαστα εξωστρεφές το «Stray Cat», αλλά και ολόκληρο το άλμπουμ, αποτελούν μια ελπιδοφόρα προσωπική ματιά που συνδυάζει μελωδικά το χιούμορ και την ειρωνεία.
 
Με σημείο εκκίνησης τους τις μελωδίες της soul μουσικής και ψυχεδελικούς ρυθμούς, καθώς και στίχους που εμπνέονται από τη ζωή τους στην Κύπρο, οι «Island Seeds» και ο «mediterranean soul» ήχος τους αποτελούν μια φρέσκια προοπτική στη μουσική σκηνή του νησιού που αποδεικνύει έμπρακτα τις αρετές της δημιουργικής συνύπαρξης.
 
Τη βραδιά θα ανοίξει η καλλιτέχνης Nama Dama, με τραγούδια της που συνδυάζουν live looping και αφήγηση.

Mediterranean soul melodies and psychedelic driven grooves by the ISLAND SEEDS at the Nicosia International Festival
 
The newly formed band "Island Seeds" presents their first album "Beginnings" at the Nicosia International Festival 2023. The band consisting of seven young Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot musicians will perform at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre on November 29th, at 20:30.
 
This musical collective was born in the spring of 2022 in Nicosia’s buffer zone. Brought together by “Home of Cooperation” and the “United by Sound” program’s creative director Lefteris Moumtzis, the collective serves as a medium of musical self-discovery and experimentation, drawing from each member’s own musical path and career.
 
“Beginnings” constitutes a musical journey that started with their first single “Stray Cat”, a humorous take on the adventures of a stray cat in Nicosia’s buffer zone, incorporating names, streets, and buildings from the band’s birthplace. Quintessentially Cypriot and yet effortlessly outward looking, “Stray Cat”, as well as the entire album, constitute a hopeful personal outlook melodically dovetailing humor with irony.
 
Rooted in soul-sprinkled melodies, psychedelic driven grooves and esoteric lyrics that draw inspiration from the collective’s reality while living in Cyprus, Island Seeds and their “mediterranean soul” sound is a fresh perspective in the island’s music scene, which confirms the benefits of creative collaborations.
 
Nama Dama, a special guest artist, shall open the evening with a set of her music that incorporates live looping and storytelling.
